Sam Ybarra

Head Age Group Coach

Originally from Colorado, Sam brings a valuable combination of competitive swimming, club coaching, strength and conditioning, and youth athlete development experience to Brazadas Swim Club.

Sam competed at California State University, Bakersfield and previously coached with FAST, Roadrunner, and ACE. Throughout his coaching career, he has helped swimmers improve their technique, race strategy, seasonal development, and preparation for championship-level competition.

Most recently, Sam served as Director of High School Training and Facility Operations at Grindhaus Strength and Conditioning, where he mentored more than 100 middle and high school athletes. He also operates his own strength and conditioning business and has helped numerous athletes navigate the college recruiting process. His understanding of both swimming and athletic performance allows him to support the complete development of each swimmer.

Sam believes swimming should develop more than athletic ability. His coaching emphasizes confidence, accountability, resilience, teamwork, and long-term growth.

As Head Age Group Coach, Sam leads the White and Navy Team divisions, supports assistant coaches, and oversees age group development and competition planning. He also regularly coaches Masters workouts and serves as Meet Director for Brazadas home meets, playing a key role in creating organized, high-quality competition experiences for swimmers and families.
